Measuring Network Robustness by Average Network Flow

چکیده

Infrastructure networks such as the Internet backbone and power grids are essential for our everyday lives. With prevalence of cyber-attacks on them, measuring their robustness has become an important issue. To date, many metrics have been proposed. It is desirable a metric to possess following three properties: considering global network topologies, strictly increasing upon link additions, having quadratic complexity in terms number nodes sparse networks. This paper proposes use Average Network Flow (ANF) with unit edge capacity metric, shows that it satisfies these properties. Especially, algorithm by leveraging Gomory-Hu trees proposed compute ANF. The tree embeds all-pairs maximum flows this into its edges, thus enabling achieve complexity. Moreover, compares ANF seven existing representative metrics. By experimenting scenario which topologies preserve numbers links, several new phenomena reported.

Measuring the robustness of network community structure using assortativity

The existence of discrete social clusters, or 'communities', is a common feature of social networks in human and nonhuman animals. The level of such community structure in networks is typically measured using an index of modularity, Q. While modularity quantifies the degree to which individuals associate within versus between social communities and provides a useful measure of structure in the ...

Improving Network Robustness by Edge Modification

An important property of networked systems is their robustness against removal of network nodes, through either random node failure or targeted attack. Although design methods have been proposed for creating, ab initio, a network that has optimal robustness according to a given measure, one is often instead faced with an existing network that cannot feasibly be substantially modified or redesig...

Lp Stability and Delay Robustness of Network Flow Control

This paper studies robustness of Kelly’s source and link control laws in [1] with respect to disturbances and time-delays. This problem is of practical importance because of unmodeled flows, and propagation and queueing delays, which are ubiquitous in networks. We first show Lp-stability, for p ∈ [1,∞], with respect to additive disturbances. We pursue L∞-stability within the input-to-state stab...

Asymptotic Network Robustness

This paper examines the dependence of performance measures on network size with a focus on large networks. We develop a framework where it is shown that poor performance can be attributed to dimension–dependent scaling of network energy. Drawing from previous work, we show that such scaling in undirected networks can be attributed to the proximity of network spectrum to unity, or distance to in...
